Janis Carter, born Janis Dremann, was an American actress of the 1940s and 1950s.

She was born in 1913 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. After graduating from Mather College in Cleveland with a degree in music and art, Janis moved to New York, aspiring to become an opera singer. In 1937, she landed a role on Broadway in the production of 'Virginia'.
The following year, she appeared in 'I Married an Angel' and soon after, she made her way to Hollywood.
Janis made her film debut in 1941 in the comedic melodrama 'Cadet Girl'. By 1942, she had signed a contract with 20th Century Fox and appeared in films such as the war detective film 'Secret Agent of Japan', the action film 'Who Is Hope Schuyler?', and the screen adaptation of 'I Married an Angel'.
She remained in Hollywood for 12 years and appeared in over 30 films during that time.
