Venerable Thera Faxian (Fa-Hien) (337-422 AD)
Venerable Thera Faxian (Fa-Hien), born in 337 AD at Shan Shi in China, was originally known as Shei.
to mean "Dharma Gaveshi" (One who seeks Dharma). He was named Fa-hien, Faxian or Shashien as a monk. In the year 399 AD, he commenced his travels from Xian (Chang-An) and walked via the Silk Route to modern Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, and finally reached Sri Lanka by sea.
